Altogether 1512 rape, 1165 killing and 3904 abduction cases were registered in Assam this year till November, Forest minister Rockybul Hussain said today.
A total of 5182 dowry-related cases, 10 witch-hunting deaths, 1083 extortion cases, 395 threats, 9458 thefts and 207 dacoity cases were also registered, Hussain said in replying to a question by Phani Bhusan Choudhury's (AGP) in the Assembly.
Last year 1716 cases of rape, 1368 killings and 5233 dowry related and 11 witch-hunting deaths were recorded, Hussain said replying on behalf of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who also heads the Home ministry.
A total of 3812 kidnapping, 9394 theft, 266 dacoity, 1006 threat, besides 1078 extortion money demand cases were also registered during the period, he said.
