A minor boy today died allegedly after an explosive device, which he had found from the scene of a recent encounter in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, went off as he was fiddling with it, police said.

Twelve-year-old Junaid Tanveer Dar had found some suspicious substance, probably a grenade, from the debris of the house which was gutted in a fierce gunbattle between militants and security forces at village Ladoora in Rifiabad area on Wednesday, police said.

The boy took the device to his home and started fiddling with it, causing an explosion, the police said adding he was critically injured in the incident and died while being shifted to Baramulla district hospital for treatment.

A Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed even as a soldier lost his life in the nearly 10-hour long gunbattle in Ladoora. The house, where the militant had taken shelter, was razed to the ground during the operation.
