An eight-year-old boy was killed after the gate of an under-construction house in Panchkula belonging to cricketer Yuvraj Singh's mother fell on him while he was playing with it, police said today.

"The under-construction house belongs to Shabnam Singh, mother of Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh," said Rajesh Kumari, Station House Officer at Mansa Devi Complex police station.

She said the police were informed when the boy was taken to a hospital after the incident two days ago. He died later at the hospital and the body was handed over to the family after postmortem yesterday.

No complaint was lodged by the boy's parents and the matter was treated as an accident.

"There is no complaint. It is an under-construction house, whose gate was lying on one side when the child started to play with it. It fell on him in the process. The boy's relatives work at the house as labourers," the SHO said.

"We have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC in this case," she said.
