Last rites of an 11-year-old boy, who died of an illness, was delayed by three days allegedly over superstitious beliefs here.

Local councilor, Rajeev Gupta, said that Manik, a resident of Shivshakti Nagar here, died due to illness on Tuesday.

His body was taken to the crematorium, but before the last rites could be performed, it was interrupted by one of his family members, he said.

The relative claimed that he was "possessed" and declared that the boy was destined to live for 52 years and may get back to life in the next 72 hours, Gupta said.

The family brought the body home and offered prayers, but after three day when the boy didn't return to life, the family performed his last rites today, Gupta said.
