A minor fire broke out this morning in electric storeroom of railway station here, causing panic among passengers and prompting railway workers to divert trains to other stations, a fire brigade official said.

The fire broke out at around 10 AM in the storeroom located near platform no 4 of the station, Chief Fire Officer Vijay Kumar said.

There were no casualties, but rail equipment like metal detectors were destroyed in the fire, Kumar said.

The cause of the fire was not yet ascertained, he said.

Railway employees tried to put out the fire with available equipment, including buckets and water pipes and succeeded in controlling the blaze, he said.

Sources claimed that station employees did not call the fire department in order to hide lack of adequate firefighting equipment at the station.

Passengers in the station claimed loss occurred due to insufficient fire fighting equipment at the station.
