Minor fire in Thanjavur temple 'hundi', currency notes burnt

Currency notes worth around Rs 1500 were burnt when the 'hundi' (collection box) at a temple in the district caught fire, police said today.

The stainless steel 'hundi' at the Sri Naganathaswamy temple went up in flames yesterday, temple officials said.

However, authorities quickly doused the fire and found currency notes worth Rs 1500 burnt in it.

The exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained, police said.
