Minor gets three years imprisonment in Mirchpur arson case

The Juvenile Justice Board today sentenced a boy to three years imprisonment in connection with the burning of Dalits' houses in Mirchpur, Haryana on April 21, 2010 and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.

The Presiding Officer of Juvenile Justice Board Ashish Sharma held the minor guilty on Janaury 27 but the quantum of punishment was awarded today.

However, four others have been acquitted in this case.

After the verdict, the minor moved a bail application which was accepted by the court, advocate Rajat Kalsan, who appeared for the victims, said.

The five juveniles were among the 103 accused in incident in which a group of villagers belonging to upper caste allegedly torched a number of houses belonging to Dalits in Mirchpur.
 

Two persons, Tara Chand (70) and his polio-stricken daughter, Suman (17) were charred to death.
