A minor girl was today allegedly crushed to death by a college bus in Damodarpura village here, following which angry villagers torched the vehicle and lodged a protest, police said.

The incident occurred this morning when Seema Suthar, a class 9 student, was on her way to school when a college bus belonging to Gyanoday Mahavidyalaya, mowed her down. She died on the spot, ASP Rakesh Kumar Sagar said.

Enraged villagers thrashed the bus driver and torched the vehicle. They also staged a road blockade keeping the body on the road in the village, nearly 9 kms from here. Villagers also refused to conduct her last rites, he said.

Police reached the spot and tried to assuage the locals, but they did not relent, the ASP said.

Meanwhile, Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Inderkumar Bakarwal said villagers were demanding Rs 10-15 lakh as compensation and that talks are on with the college management on the issue.

Further investigation in the matter is on, police added.
