A 12-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by two brothers here, who also attempted to murder her, police said today.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when the two accused, living in her neighbourhood, asked the girl to come to their house on the pretext of returning a gift, police said.
The brothers then gangraped her and also attempted to kill her, the victim's father said in a complaint to the police following which an FIR has been lodged against the duo identified as Monu alias Aabad and Shahzad.
The medical examination of the girl has confirmed rape, police said, adding the two accused have been arrested.
Their murder attempt was foiled as the girl's family members, hearing her cry, reached the spot and then thrashed the brothers, police said.
