A minor girl was allegedly raped while her friend was assaulted by two youths at Valiv in neighbouring Palghar district following which the duo has been apprehended, police said today.
The incident took place on February 25 when the victims were taken to a dilapidated structure by the duo who belong to Nalasopara in Vasai, Assistant Police Inspector, Sudharshan Potdar of Valiv police station said.
While one of accused raped the girl, her friend who tried to help her was beaten up, the officer said.
Following a complaint, a case under relevant sections of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) was registered yesterday, he added.
The youths, whose names have been withheld, were produced in local court today which remanded them in police custody till March 10, police said.
