Minor girl raped in Phagwara

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man here, police said today.

Inspector Baldev Singh Randhawa, Station House Officer (SHO), Government Railway Police (GRP), Jalandhar told reporters here that the accused, a resident of local Preet Nagar colony, was arrested.

He was booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the SHO said.

The victim belonged to the Sugar mill colony, he said.

Her parents were blind and they made their living by begging, GRP officials said.

They said the victim alleged that the accused took her to his room and allegedly forced her to drink liquor.

 

He then accused took her to the bushes near the railway station and allegedly raped her, police said.

The girl was admitted to the local civil hospital and got medically examined, they said.
