Minor girl's death: Maha Women's Commission seeks report from

The Maharashtra State Commission for Women has written a letter to the Pune Police commissioner and sought a detailed report on the action taken in the case of a a two-and-half-year-old girl who was killed after being abducted and sexually assaulted.

The girl was abducted by an unidentified person from her house, while she was sleeping next to her mother, here on Saturday night and was found dead a day later, barely 500 metres away from her residence, near Kudale Mala off Sinhgad Road.

According to the police, she was sexually assaulted before being strangulated to death.

"The entire incident is tragic and heart-wrenching. So taking a suo-moto step, we have written a letter to the Pune Police commissioner and sought a detailed report on the action taken by the Pune Police in this case," said Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson, Maharashtra State Commission for Women.
 

She said she would come to Pune and visit the girl's family by the end of this month.

Meanwhile, the police said they had formed multiple teams to nab the unidentified suspect.

The girl's mother had woken up to find her daughter missing. She went to her husband who was sleeping in another room and told him about her disappearance.

The parents, with the help of people living in the vicinity, started a search for the girl, then called the police control room. They later approached the police station and since the girl was a minor, a case of kidnapping was registered immediately. The parents are daily wage labourers.

The girl's body was found the next morning by people residing in the area.
