Minor killed after being hit by speeding car in Thane

A 13-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a speeding car while he was crossing a road here, police said today.

The incident took place last night on the Ghodbunder road in which Karthik Hardas was killed, Thane police Public Relations Officer Gajanan Kadbule said.

Hardas, from Ahmednagar,had come to participate in the Thane Mayor Arts and sports meet, which started yesterday. He along with 9 others and their coach were staying at a transit camp, he said.

They had gone out for dinner and while returning, Hardas was hit by the car while he was trying to cross the divider, the officer said.
 

He was rushed to a private hospital, where he died during treatment.

The meet was organised by the Thane Municipal Corporation.

Civic officials said following the mishap, the contingent from Ahmednagar has decided not to participate in the meet.

They said Karthik, was an adopted child, and his parents have been informed about his death.

Meanwhile, the civic body has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the bereaved family.

City mayor Sanjay More has condoled his demise.

"It is an unfortunate incident and a compensation of Rs 1 lakh is being announced," More said in an official release.
