A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 32-year-old neighbour who kidnapped her while she was playing outside her home in northwest Delhi, police said today.

The incident was reported yesterday evening when the girl was playing outside her home while her mother was inside their home in Haiderpur village, said a senior police officer.

When the mother came out to check on her daughter, she could not find her. She was told by a passerby that a girl is lying in the nearby bushes, police said.

The girl was then rushed to a hospital where doctors told her parents that she had been sexually assaulted, said the officer.

A case was registered under section 376 (rape) of the IPC and the relevant sections of POCSO, police said.

The accused was drunk and roaming around the area when the girl was playing. He kidnapped her and then sexually assaulted her and left her in the bushes, the officer said.

The accused is absconding and police is on the lookout for him.
