Minor raped by shopkeeper

A seven-year-old girl was

allegedly raped by a shopkeeper at north-east Delhi's Harsh Vihar area, police said today.

The accused, Rajesh, was caught by the locals, thrashed and later handed over to the police yesterday.

He was admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

"The incident took place when the victim, a class one student, was playing alone outside her home. The accused who ran a small shop lured her to a secluded place and raped her," said a police officer.

The victim revealed the ordeal to her mother and later her family and neighbours searched for the accused and caught him.
 

"He was thrashed badly by the locals. We got to know about the incident at around 11:30 in the night after which a team rushed to the spot and took him to hospital where he is undergoing treatment," the police official said.

Meanwhile, on the basis of the victim's statement and medical examination, police registered a case at Harsh Vihar police station of rape and under sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
