A minor girl was allegedly raped by an acquaintance at Sham Enclave near village Chak Hakeem in this town, police said today.

The victim's mother, a labourer, alleged that she and her husband were away at work when an acquaintance scaled the wall of their house and assaulted her eldest child.

The victim told reporters at the civil hospital here that the rapist thrashed her daughter, threatening her of dire consequences if she mentioned the crime to anyone.

The mother said that her eldest daughter was too scared to say a word about the incident.

"It was my younger daughter who narrated her elder sisters tale of woe," she said.

Sadar SHO Inspector Lakhvir Singh said that the accused, Vinod Kumar, aged between 30-35, was arrested this morning under section 376 (punishment for rape) of the IPC.

The woman said that she has four daughters, including the 13-year-old victim. The family hails from Bihar.
