A high school student was today runover and killed by a truck near the Post Office Chowk here, police said.

Manish Kumar (16), a resident of Bharatiganj locality here, was on his way to his tuition classes in the morning when a speeding truck laden with stone-chips hit his bicycle killing him on the spot, they said.

Some students, who witnessed the event, went on a rampage by blocking the road and the train routes of Sasaram town, the headquarters of the Rohtas district.

Several people, including four policemen, were injured in brick-batting, the police said.

Students also pelted stones on the vehicles passing by, and set ablaze two trucks. They later blockaded the Grand Trunk Road (National Highway 2), the police said.

The students pelted stones damaging window panes of the coaches, Sasaram Sub-divisional Police Officer Alakh Niranjan Chaudhary said.

"Additional forces have been requisitioned. A few people, including four policemen, have been injured in the brick-batting. We are chasing away the rampaging students. The situation is under control now," the SDPO said.

Meanwhile, students from other educational institutions also joined the protest. Fearing escalation of violence, shutters of few shops were shut down.

They also attacked the police personnel who tried to check them.
