In another case of a minor school girl giving birth to a child in Odisha, a 15-year-old tribal student of class VIII, delivered a child.

The girl, a student of the Gupteswar Sevashram (residential school for SC and ST students) at Kandulbeda, under the Boipariguda police station limits in Koraput district, gave birth to a baby boy on Thursday night.

While the newly-born child died few minutes after birth, the minor girl was admitted to the Jeypore hospital and her condition was stated to be stable.

District administration officials said the student, a resident of Purunaguda village under Ramagiri panchayat, had gone to her village during the Christmas holidays in December and had remained absent since then.

"On the night of Thursday, she complained of abdominal pain and was being shifted to Boipariguda hospital by her family in an ambulance. However, she delivered a boy on her way to hospital," said Trinath Rao, district welfare officer, Koraput.

The parents of the student have lodged a complaint at Boipariguda police station and the district administration has started an inquiry into the incident.

"An inquiry is being conducted and necessary action will be taken after we complete the process," Rao said.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Jeypore) Rajendra Senapati said "The girl has named a person behind the whole incident and we are trying to trace him."

On February 4 this year, a 12-year-old tribal girl student of class VI studying in Umuri Sevashram in Koraput district had delivered a boy at the hostel.
