The government has decided to extend the deadline for online submission of applications by students from minority communities for availing pre-matric and post-matric scholarships for the year 2016-17 till September 30.

This is for the second time that the Minority Affairs Ministry has extended the deadline. Earlier, the Ministry had extended last date for submitting the applications till August 31 from July 31.

"The decision has been taken this keeping in mind, a large number of requests and suggestions received from people across the country regarding extending the deadline," a statement quoted Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs (Independent Charge) Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi as saying.

The aim of offering scholarships at pre-matric level is to encourage parents from the communities to send their children to schools and lighten their financial burden on school education, the statement reads.

Similarly, the objective behind giving post-matric scholarship is to award meritorious students from economically weaker sections of minority community so as to provide them better opportunities for higher education, it said.
