Concerned over rejection of scholarships to minority students during 2014-15 on technical grounds by banks, the government has decided to give a one-time option to them to rectify their account details.
The development comes against the backdrop of Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptulla's commitment to the students of Jammu and Kashmir in this regard during her recent visit to the state.
"As a follow up action, the Ministry examined the matter with the banks and keeping in view of the genuine hardship being faced by minority students, it has been decided to allow students whose claims were rejected at the time of bank validation during 2014-15, to rectify their account detail.

The decision will especially help hundreds of those eligible for 'Means Cum Matric' scholarship and 'Post Matric Scholarship' scheme.
In a communication to Minority Welfare Departments of all states, the ministry has clearly stated that the option to edit their account details will be given once only, and it will not be applicable for rejected cases during 2015-16.
The provision to edit option to correct bank details will be available for such students on the National Scholarship Portal from today till September 30, 2015, officials said.
The communication further mentions that once the correction will be done by the students, their cases will be re-examined. With this facility they would also be able to apply for scholarship during 2015-16 as renewal case.
