In a miracle of sorts, a baby boy was born in the impact of a road accident in China that killed his parents.

The accident saw both the baby boy's heavily pregnant mother Wang Zhau, and his father Mao, hit by a truck as they were going to hospital on a motorcycle yesterday.

The baby was born in the impact of the collision. He was thrown out of the woman's belly and landed three meters away.

The baby is in critical condition.

"It is a miracle that the infant survived the gruesome road accident," Fang Mei, a pediatrician at Haicang Hospital.

The baby, weighing 4.2 kg, suffered bruising to the head, back, legs and arms when he was admitted to hospital.

Further examinations have shown he suffered a brachial plexus injury and a minor brain hemorrhage.

The child is under medical observation, Fang told state-run Xinhua news agency.

Locals have volunteered to take care of the baby at hospital and a group of mothers have provided him milk.

In addition, the local Red Cross has set up a fund to help cover medical and child-raising costs.
