The ferry 'Surobhee', carrying 110 people including crew and 16 vehicles, was on its way to Kamalabari in Majuli from Nematighat in Jorhat when it got stuck in a sand-bar between Dainigaon and Charigaon at around 2:00 p.M, official sources said.

The ferry changed direction due to the swirling water but the crew managed to bring it out from the sand-bar after battling for more than an hour saving it from sinking and averting a major disaster.

The ferry reached its destination later with the panic-stricken passengers heaving a huge sigh of relief having escaped alive, the sources added.
