Separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today said the ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir should learn a lesson from the DMK which had quit the UPA government at the Centre on the issue of rights of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
"If the NC is serious about its opposition to Afzal Guru's execution, what stopped it from withdrawing support to the UPA?" asked the chairman of the moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference.
"What stopped Omar from recalling Farooq Abdullah from the (Union) Cabinet?," asked Mirwaiz.

Former Chief Minister and NC patriarch Farooq Abdullah is the minister for New and Renewable Energy in Manmohan Singh's cabinet.
Mirwaiz accused both the NC and the opposition PDP of choosing to exploit sentiments and emotions of Kashmiris in their "lust" for political power.
The moderate separatist leader alleged the PDP was never serious on supporting a resolution seeking clemency for Guru.
It had quite "craftily" chosen not to press for a resolution seeking the return of Guru's mortal remains to his family, Mirwaiz alleged.
He said neither the NC nor the PDP could understand sentiments of the people as their prime objective was only to safeguard their political interests.
