Miscreant arrested for setting religious place on fire

A miscreant who set fire at a religious place at Jhalawar, was arrested after the incident triggered protest in the area.

The accused was identified as Jagdish Dhakar (32), and is said to be mentally disturbed, the Kowali SHO of Jhalwar, Lakhan Lal Meena told PTI on telephone.

Dhakar was booked under various sections of IPC including 457, 330 and 436 for hurting sentiments of religious people and damaging idol, Meena said.

The accused broke a cement net of Hanuman Temple, and set on fire an idol with "mustard oil" after entering the premises last night, he said, adding the idol was slightly damaged and was blackened due to smoke.
 

Scores of VHP and Bajrang Dal activists held a minor protest demanding arrest of the accused. The protesters also attempted to shut shops but it was not successful as the police made the arrest in the morning, he claimed.
