A group of miscreants fired on police personnel from a car on Tuesday, killing two of them and leaving another injured, and decamped with the weapons belonging to the slain policemen in Saran district.

Station House Officer of Madhaura police station Baleshwar Rai said, the policemen were members of a special investigating team formed to solve a recent dacoity case and they were conducting searches in a market in the area when they were attacked.

Additional Inspector Mithilesh Kumar Sah and constable Farooq were killed in the firing while another constable Rajneesh Kumar suffered injuries and he was hospitalised, Rai said.

The miscreants took away an AK-47 rifle and a pistol belonging to the slain police personnel before fleeing.

Bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination and efforts were on to nab the culprits, Rai said.
