Miscreants steal cash and coupons from Diva railway station

A group of miscreants stole cash and coupons from the Diva suburban railway station booking office here today, when an irate mob was busy pelting stones and blockading railway lines to protest against erratic local train services, souces said.

Miscreants stole cash and coupons worth Rs 1.18 lakh, the police said, adding that this included Rs 54,906 in cash.

Ticketing clerks ran for their lives after the mob began pelting stones at the booking office, after which miscreants cleaned took over the office and stole cash and coupons.

The Government Railway Police has taken note of the crime, though no offence has been registered so far.
 

The police is studying closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage for further course of action.

Meanwhile, the police has taken as many as 18 people into custody in connection with rioting, arson and damage to machinery, the police said.
