Unidentified assailants today tried to break open an ATM of a bank near here, police said.

The miscreants fled from the ATM counter at Vengola after an alarm bell went off immediately when they attempted to steal the money from the machine by damaging its frame, they said.

The CCTV has captured the movements of one person who fled from the scene, police said.

The moment the South Indian Bank's ATM was targeted, the bank's control room at Kakkanad came to know about it and they informed the police.

An investigation to identify the culprits is underway, police said.
