Opposition leader Suryakanta Mishra today faced protest while visiting flood-hit Udanarayanpur area of Howrah district.

While the CPI(M) leader's car was allowed to proceed further, some other left front members of his convoy, including Howrah Zilla Parishad opposition leader Aparna Purkait, had to return to Howrah city from the spot, a senior police officer said.

Mishra inspected relief camps in the interior area and distributed relief materials.

Alleging that it was Trinamool Congress supporters who tried to stop him from visiting flood-hit areas, the former minister, who later left for Kolkata, said there should not be any politics when common people are in trouble.

A district Trinamool Congress leader denied its supporters were behind the incident.
