Miss United Kingdom Carina Tyrrell will visit India next week to learn about medical facilities in the country which she think will help her work on tackling inequalities in healthcare provision.

"India has an important position in the global health field because of the size of the country, its rapidly growing economy, and the huge progress it has already made in health, including reducing poverty (WHO)," Tyrrell told 'Cambridge News' ahead of her visit next week.

The 25-year-old Cambridge University medical student hopes her experiences in the country will help her work on tackling inequalities in healthcare provision.

"Many countries look to India for inspiration. I hope that my experiences in the global health field, combined with learning more about healthcare in India, will be helpful in assisting with any outreach programmes," she said.

The medical student from Murray Edwards College at University of Cambridge is visiting the country for the second time.

She first visited India when she was 16-year-old on a humanitarian project.

This time she will be there as part of the Miss United Kingdom's 'Beauty with a Purpose' programme.

Tyrrell, who narrowly missed out on the Miss World crown last December, wants to specialise in global health and infectious disease after she returns to her studies.

"I hope to help tackle the inequalities in healthcare provision around the world, by working in the field with patients as well as at the policy level," she said.

Tyrrell was Miss Cambridgeshire and then Miss UK and came an impressive fourth out of 124 contenders in Miss World beauty pageant this year.
