Two minor brothers, who were missing since September 22, were found murdered in Mundet village of neighbouring Shamli district, sparking protests.

Tension prevailed in the village after the boys -- Shahrukh (10) and Sajid (12) -- were found strangled to death yesterday. The boys were missing since Monday when they had taken their goats for grazing, according to Additional Superintendent of Police V K Mishra.

Police have arrested three persons on charges of kidnapping and murdering the two brothers, he said.

Irate villagers blocked the Shamli-Gharipukhta road for several hours and staged protest, refusing to hand over the bodies for post mortem.

Senior poice officers tried to pacify the protesters after which the bodies were sent for post mortem.

Further investigation is on, police said, adding security has been tightened in the village and extra police personnel have been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.
