The body of a 19-year-old man, who went missing two days ago, was today fished out from river Neeru in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Mohammad Yaseen (19), a resident of Bharat in Doda, went missing on March 31 and a report was lodged by the family members to the police in the matter, police said.

During investigation, police found that the man was headed towards Bhadarwah with two other persons after the Friday prayer, In-charge police post Bhalla, Ajay Engotra said.

On interrogating the two persons, they told police that the three of them went to take bath in Neeru river during which Yaseen drowned, he said.

A joint team of Chenab Rescuers and police launched a search operation in Neeru and Chenab rivers simultaneously and after 36 hours of search, the body was today spotted near Galgandhar, the officer said.

The body was taken to the district hospital for postmortem but the victim's family furnished an order issued by the District Magistrate Doda, refraining the doctors from performing postmortem as they have reportedly given an undertaking that there is no foul play involved in the matter and the man's death was an accident, he said.

The body was later handed over to the family members for last rites, the police officer said.
