The body of a man, who did not return home last night, was retrieved from the PAP canal, near Pongalur in Tirupur District, today.
The 26-year-old Manoj, running a two-wheeler workshop in Sulur on the outskirts, had gone on night duty as a volunteer of "Friends of Police" on January 19 and did not return home, police said.
His wife lodged a complaint with police and also with "friends of police.'

Police recovered his motorcycle near the PAP Canal at Sulthanpet in the district and alerted nearby police stations.
A body from the canal was recovered near Pongalur, some 20 km from Sultanpet, and was identified by the wife, they said.
Police are investigating the possibility of murder or a hit and run accident case, police added.
