The family politics found favour with electorates in the May 5 Karnataka assembly elections with kith and kin of prominent leaders winning in some of the constituencies.

Father-son duo of Congress, Shamanoor Shivashankarappa-S S Mallikarjuna and M Krishnappa- Priya Krishna have won from their respective constituencies.

While Shivashankarappa was elected from Davanagere South, his son Mallikarjuna entered the assembly from Davanagere North.

Krishnappa, a realtor, successfully retained his Vijayanagar seat in Bangalore City and his son did the same from the neighbouring Govindarajanagar constituency.

It was a mixed bag of luck for JDS state unit President H D Kumaraswamy, who coasted to victory with a big margin from Ramanagar assembly segment, but his wife Anita, had to bite the dust from neighbouring Chennapatna constituency.

Lady luck continued to smile on Kumaraswamy's elder brother H D Revanna (JDS), who chalked out an impressive victory from his bastion Holenarasipura in Hassan district.

It is also a sweet and sour experience for M Krishnappa who retained Bangalore South seat, however, his brother M Srinivas, lost in Rajarajeswarinagar constituency. Both contested in BJP ticket.

Similar was the fate of former chief minister S Bangarappa's sons who crossed swords at each other in Soraba constituency in Shimoga.

Madhu Bangarappa, won on JDS ticket defeating his brother Kumar Bangarappa(Congress) who finished third.
