Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the apex Mizo students body, today slammed Mizoram government for doing nothing to prevent possibility of illegal influx from Assam after publication of National Registration of Citizens (NRC) and threatened to erect check posts along the Assam border.

MZP President L Ramdinliana Renthlei accused the state government of remaining a mute spectators while neighbouring state governments beefed up security and deployed additional forces along their borders with Assam in view of the NRC publication by the Assam government on July 30 which left out more than 40 lakh people.

"We will erect border check posts manned by students at Vairengte, Bairabi and Saipum if the state government fails to deploy additional policemen along the Assam border by August 15," he told reporters.

He added that the MZP wanted the government not to issue Inner Line Permit to those not included in the NRC and take great care on the issue.
