Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla today could not attend the meeting convened by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at Agartala, the Tripura capital, due to late receipt of invitation, state home department officials said.

David Lalthangliana, OSD of the state home department told PTI that Lal Thanhawla was already in the Mizoram-Myanmar border Champhai town when the official invitation for the meeting with Singh and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was received.

The meeting was convened to discuss the proposed continuation of repatriation of Brus lodged in six relief camps in North Tripura district for the last 17 years.

The Bru evacuees left Mizoram after communal tension in October 1997.
