A meeting of the Mizoram State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) chaired by Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla today decided to create an emergency fund to expedite payment of compensation to the victims of disasters.
An official statement said the meeting also agreed to provide Rs 10 crore as State Disaster Mitigation Fund during 2015-2016 fiscal.
The meeting, however, decided to undertake further study on the proposals by the Fourteenth Finance Commission to pay Rs 1,01,900 to each family whose house was completely or severely damaged, the statement said.
The materials used for construction of houses should be the determining factor for fixing compensation, the meeting opined, it added.
