Mizoram's Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Minister Zodintluanga today said that applications would be received by the department from tomorrow for those interested to occupy 1,096 units of urban housing constructed by the department under the Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP).
Addressing a press conference in Aizawl, Zodintluanga said that the houses were constructed at three locations in Aizawl - Economically Weaker Section Housing project at Lawipu locality (408 units), BSUP Scheme at Rangvamual locality (368 units) and Durtlang BSUP Housing Project (320 units).
He also said that 1950 houses have already been constructed by the owners of the lands under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP) and all the owners have already took possession and occupied their respective houses.

"Mizoram was the recipient of the Best Performing State Award for the department's performance under the BSUP and the IHSDP during 2007-2012 among the Small States and Special Category States by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation," the Minister said.
He said that the department also took up 78 units of Individual Housing and 64 units of Multi Rental Dwelling Unit under the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) and the works were in good progress.
Under the new scheme called the 'Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana PMAY),' 20,000 families would be assisted in the state to construct their own houses during 2015 to 2022, he said, adding that the scheme would not only cover district headquarters but all the 23 Census towns in the state.
