A special court dealing with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 today sentenced one person to five years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 for possession of 2.3 lakh tablets of Pseudo-ephedrine, Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department officials said.
The convicted person, Lalthuama, was the first to be convicted under the NDPS Act for possession of Pseudo-ephedrine in the state, the officials said.
His prison term would be extended by another year if he failed to pay the fine, the court said.
Lalthuama was arrested on May 17 last year by the state excise and narcotics department officials.
