Mizoram government is planning to purchase rice from private companies and selected contractors to stem its shortage, state Food and Civil Supplies Miniter John Rotluangliana said today.
The proposed purchase of rice is aimed at preventing shortage of rice in view of the 'mega block' caused by the ongoing guege conversion work on in the Lumding-Badarpur railway sector in Assam, Rotluangliana told reportes here.
The contractors appointed by the state government would procure rice from any sources including neighbouring countries like Myanmar and Bangladesh, he said.
