Mizoram police recover arms from Assam village

Mizoram Police recovered a revolver and a pistol, allegedly concealed by Manipur-based Hmar People's Convention (Democrats) militants in neighbouring Cachar of Assam.

The revolver was identified as taken by the HPC (D) militants from a police official when the former ambushed a team of assembly committee on government assurances near Mizoram-Manipur border Zokhawthiang hamlet on March 28 last.

An official statement of the state police department today said a police team led by Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Mizoram-Assam border Vairengte recovered one . 38 Ruger revolver, one Korean made 9mm pistol CZ 75 and eight rounds of ammunition from a place in Cachar district's Dolakhal village.
 

Three policemen were killed in the March 28b ambush and the militants decamped with all the arms held by the Police personnel.

The outfit, though based in Manipur, demanded a separate autonomous district council for the Hmar community by carving our northeastern part of Mizoram adjoining Manipur and had been indulging in violent activities inside Mizoram since 1994.
