A group of political parties and civil societies here today resolved to take steps to ensure that that Election Commission of India did not force the state election officials to proceed with the completion of the special summary revision of voters' lists in the Bru relief camps in Tripura.

The resolution was made in a joint meeting of Mizoram's five main political parties and five civil societies today.

The meeting, chaired by Lalbiakzuala, president of the central committee of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), expressed regret that the EC continued to make efforts to conduct summary revision of electoral rolls in the Tripura relief camps.

"Important official documents like the electoral roll claims forms were sent to the Mizoram Bru Displaced People's Forum (MBDPF) leaders in the relief camps as the MBDPF were not designated officials," the meeting said.

Terming the action of the ECI as "illegal", the meeting demanded that all the documents be taken back by the election officials.

The meeting decided that a delegation of the NGO's Coordination Committee and political parties be sent to Delhi to convey the wishes of the people of Mizoram to the ECI and the Union Home Ministry soon.

It was also decided that the plight of the tribal people in Manipur also be taken up with the Centre.

The meeting was attended by leaders of the YMA, Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) or the Mizo women federation, Mizoram Upa Pawl (MUP) or Mizo elders association, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) or Mizo students federation, Mizo Students Union (MSU), ruling Congress, Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP), Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) and the BJP.
