MLA claims gangster Pujari demanded Rs 50 lakh from him

A MLA from Maharashtra has filed a complaint claiming that he was getting extortion calls from gangster Suresh Pujari, police said today.

Thane Police Public Relations Officer Sukhada Narkar said the MLA -- Ganpat Gaikwad, also a cable operator, received several calls, purportedly by Suresh Pujari, in between November 15 to 17.

Narkar said as per the complaint Pujari demanded Rs 50 lakh as extortion.

Gaikwad represents the Kalyan East constituency.

Following a complaint, a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Kolsewadi police station, the officer said, adding a probe was on.
