Continuing his tirade against IUML leader and state Public Works Minister V K Ibrahim Kunju, Kerala Congress (B) MLA K B Ganesh Kumar today sought a probe into his assets and gave a statement against the minister to the Lok Ayukta here.

Kumar, whose party recently snapped ties with the ruling UDF, alleged coruption in awarding of works by the PWD ministry and claimed that he had solid evidence to support his charges.

Kumar filed a statement before the Lok Ayukta as per a directive of the agency based on a petition filed by a public servant seeking a probe into the allegations against the minister.

The Lok Ayukta directed Kumar to give a detailed affidavit to support his charges by next month.

Kumar reiterated his charges against some staff members of the minister also.

Meanwhile, terming as "baseless" the allegations levelled against him, Kunju said Kumar was only trying to tarnish his image.

He said he would face the challenges legally and politically.

IUML general secretary K P A Majeed also refuted the corruption charges against the minister and said it was only an attempt to attract media attention by raising baseless allegation at a time when Kumar's position in state politics had "descended."

Kumar, son of KC-B chief R Balakrishna Pillai and lone MLA of the party in the House, had alleged in the state Assembly last December that three members in the PWD minister's staff indulged in corruption and the minister was not able to check them.

He had also demanded that Congress-led UDF government set up an Assembly Committee to look into the charges.
