Mob attacks police station, releases TMC worker

A group of people today raided a police station in Birbhum district, allegedly assaulted a police officer, and forcefully released a TMC activist who later surrendered before the police after several hours.

Police said a large group of people, including women, attacked Kankartala police station, assaulted its officer-in- charge Abul Ali and took away Khilafat Ali who was arrested a couple of hours back in connection with an old case.

He, however, surrendered before the police later.

Action will be taken against him according to the law, the police said.

Khilafat Ali is known to be a Trinamool Congress worker in the area.
 

No one was arrested in connection with the attack on the police station till late night.
