Mob attacks range office, decamps with one detainee; six hurt

At least six forest employees, including a ranger, were injured when a mob allegedly attacked Motipur range office and forcibly took away a person accused in illegal felling of trees, forest department officers said here today.

Forest range officer Khurshid Alam had detained one Salman yesterday for illegal felling of trees in Motipur range of Katarniaghat wildlife division, they said.

Upon getting the news, a mob attacked the range office and forcibly took away Salman from the lockup, the officers said.

The mob also vandalized the range office and manhandled the staff. Half a dozen employees, including ranger Khurshid Alam and deputy ranger Ram Pyare were injured in the incident, they said.
