Mob blocks expressway after accident, police fire teargas

Police fired teargas shells and used force to disperse a mob that indulged in brick bating protesting against the death of a father and his daughter on Yamuna Expressway in an accident here this evening.

According to police, Harpal Baghel (30), a resident of village Khadera, and his five-year-old daughter were killed and his wife Khushbu (26) and and two sons Gagan (3) and Magan (1) injured when the motorcycle carrying them was hit by a car from behind this evening.

After the accident, villagers gathered there and blocked the road for about one hour and pelted stones when police tried to persuade them to remove the blockade, forcing police to use force to disperse them.
 

"The police had to fire teargas shells and also use mild force against the unruly crowd, that first blocked Yamuna Expressway, and then indulged in heavy brick batting," SSP Dr Rakesh Singh said.

The man and his daughter died on the spot, his wife and two sons, were seriously injured and have been rushed to S N Medical college Agra, he said, adding in the melee, the car driver managed to flee.
