A Deputy Superintendent of Police today sustained head injuries when a group of Sikh hardliners allegedly resorted to brick-batting when they were stopped by police during a protest march here, police said.
According to police, a group of Sikh hardliners took out protest march to extend support to Sikh activist 80-year-old Surat Singh Khalsa who is on hunger strike for past few weeks demanding release of Sikh detainees lodged in various jails of the country who they claim have completed their sentences.
The situation turned ugly after police stopped the group, which started throwing bricks on the police party, they said, adding during which one of the bricks hit Dy SP Tilak Raj on his head, injuring him badly.

Following the incident, the protesters dispersed and ran away from the scene.
Heavy police force has been deployed at Ajnala after the incident.
