A mob today set ablaze over three dozen vehicles and severely damaged over 40 other vehicles after a mini-truck was found parked on the Jaipur-Delhi highway at Malpura village, near Dharuhera, with an alleged cargo of a large quantity of beef.

Among the charred vehicles are about 15 Haryana and Rajasthan Roadways buses, a police jeep and over 20 dumpers, trucks and other vehicles, police said.

The mob also set on fire a police post in Sector 6 of Dharuhera after they discovered another vehicle containing an enormous quantity of beef lying abandoned on the road.

The blockade on the Delhi-Jaipur highway was cleared with the intervention of a large number of police personnel who lobbed teargas shells to disperse the crowd.

The irate mob too pelted stones on police with injuries being reported on both sides.

The mob also manhandled mediapersons who had landed up to report on the situation, snatching away their mobile phones and cameras.

The driver and conductor of the mini-truck laden with beef were apprehended by police.
