Mob snatches body from police after road mishap

Trouble broke out here after a motorcycle-borne man was hit by a dumper truck, killing him on the spot, police said on Wednesday.

Shortly after the incident, a mob snatched the body away from police custody, put it in the dumper truck and tried to set it on fire, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Itanagar, Tumme Amo, said.

The incident happened around 8 pm on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Tamo Kali, a resident of Tirbin circle in Lepa Rada district, the SP said.

The mob took away the body from the police after officers of Itanagar police station recovered it from the accident spot, the police officer said, adding, the angry locals also tried to torch the killer vehicle.

 

The body was retrieved after the mob calmed down and then it was taken to a hospital for post-mortem examination, he said.

The driver of the truck has been arrested, the SP said.
