Mob takes law into own hands, lynches suspected murderer

A 45-year-old Dalit man was lynched by an irate mob at a village in Odisha's Kendrapara district for allegedly committing murder.

The deceased Bhikari Sethy had allegedly killed a fellow villager on Monday, police said today.

Parsuram Beura was allegedly hacked to death by Sethy in a sudden fit of rage in Jamapada village under Patkura police station jurisdiction.

"Parsuram Beura (34) was stabbed to death Monday by Bhikari Sethy while he was returning to his house after taking bath in the river. A mob comprising the local villagers had caught him and brutally assaulted him," said Inspector Patkura Police Station, Jyoti Ranjan Goud.
 

Bhikari was rescued by police and rushed to the district government hospital in Kendrapada on Monday evening.Later, he was shifted to SCM Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where the same night he succumbed to injuries, Goud said

"Police have detained six villagers for questioning in this case. Case has been registered under 302 IPC against unknown assailants. Police are investigating the case," added the police officer.
